The School Media Workshop for the Kegalle Education Zone, organized by the Sri Lanka Press Council in coordination with Kegalu Balika Vidyalaya, was held on 19 June 2026 at the auditorium of Kegalu Balika Vidyalaya.

Emeritus Professor Ariyarathne Athugala, Mr. Priyan R. Wijebandara, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Press Council, and Ms. Chathushi Vidushika, Attorney-at-Law and English News Investigation Officer of the Council, participated as expert resource persons for the workshop.

The programme was conducted with the participation of G.C.E. Advanced Level Communication and Media Studies students from the Kegalle Education Zone. Ms. H.A.T.D.K. Jayarathne, Principal of Kegalu Balika Vidyalaya, teachers, and officials of the Sri Lanka Press Council were also present at the event.

Two school workshops were conducted by the press council covering schools at Zonal Education divisions in Badulla & Bandarawela district on 17 th October, 2019 & 18 th October 2019 for the School Media Workshops series. The Seminars were conducted at the auditorium in Badulla Municipal Council & Darmashoka College, Bandarawela. Nearly 800 students were participated representing the Zonal educational divisions for the Workshop which was held on “Media Literacy & Entertainment”. Emeritus Professor Mr. Sunanda Mahendra , Former Head of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Kelaniya, Dr.Mrs Wasana Maithree at University Of Kelaniya & Mr. Prasannajith Abeysuriya , The Former Head of the Department of Drama at the University of Visual & Performing Arts were participated as resource persons to this special occasion .The programme was involved with lectures & discussions.

The school Workshop on “Media Literacy and Appreciation Under the series of Media Workshops for Schools conducted by the Sri Lanka Press Council, the first school workshop for the year 2019 was held on 25th of February 2019 at the District Secretarial Office in Kalutara.

The Sri Lanka Press Council organized a School Media Workshop for G.C.E. Advanced Level Communication and Media Studies students in the Kandy Education Zone on 26 June 2026 at the auditorium of Good Shepherd Convent, Kandy.

The workshop was conducted by Mr. Priyan R. Wijebandara, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Press Council; Dr. Niroshana Thambawita, Press Commissioner; and Ms. Chathushi Vidushika, Attorney-at-Law and English News Investigation Officer of the Council, who served as the resource persons.

The workshop was attended by a large number of students and teachers from schools in the Kandy Education Zone. Also present were Rev. Sr. Sudarika Fernando, Principal of Good Shepherd Convent; Ms. Thushari de Alwis, an official of the Kandy Zonal Education Office; Assistant Press Commissioners Mrs. Dilhani Wijeratne and Mr. Suroshana Iranga; together with other officials of the Sri Lanka Press Council.

The first school workshop for the workshop series in 2020 was held at Panadura Balika College on 27th of February. Nearly 450 students participated for this event representing the relevant Zone. Emeritus Professor at University of Kelaniya Mr. Sunanda Mahendara, Senior lecturer Mr. Wijayananda Rupasinghe and Senior lecturer Mr. Prasannajith Abesooriya participated to this event as resource persons. The workshop was held associating lectures and discourses.

Two lectures were conducted under two main topics by Sri Lanka Press Council for students who are studying at Galahitiyawa Central College in its auditorium today.
The discourse was conducted under the theme “Sri Lanka Press Council Act & its Ethics” by the press Commissioner Niroshana Thambawita. Another discourse was conducted regarding “The Right to Information Act and its importance” by Mr Daya Sri Narendra.

The Sri Lanka Press Council conducted a media workshop on 14^th July 2026 for Advanced Level Communication and Media Studies students in the Bibile Education Zone at the auditorium of Yashodhara Balika National School, Bibile. The workshop was organized under the guidance of Chairman Priyan R. Wijebandara and Press Commissioner Dr. Niroshana Thambawita. The resource persons included Prof. Wasana Maithree Herath, Assistant Press Commissioner Suroshana Iranga, Ms Chathushi Vidushika - Attorney-at-Law (English News Investigation Officer), Ms Ishanga Sathurusinghe (Sinhala News Investigation Officer), and Mrs M. Dhulabarani (Tamil News Investigation Officer). During the event, the Press Council donated school stationery packs to the  Principal of the school, Mrs. S.M. Himali Saman Kumari, to support students who continue their education despite various challenges.

The workshop was coordinated by Mr. Prasanna Wimalasooriya, the teacher in charge of the Media and Communication subject, and was attended by the Accountant, Mr. Wenura Sankalpa, Communication and Media Studies students, teachers, and many other participants.
