Diploma Course On Journalism & Communication
Even though various state institutions, universities, private institutions and organizations conduct courses on Journalism, it is the responsibility of the Sri Lanka Press Council to conduct systematic seminars and workshops on Journalism and Communication study in accordance with Government policies. It is expected to popularize a better media culture within the island.
Accordingly, the studies of the third group of this course are being conducted and the applicants who have satisfied the following qualifications can apply.
Passing 3 subjects in the G.C.E.(A/L) Examination is necessary and passing the G.C.E.(O/L) and the experience of three years is sufficient for journalist.

Certificate Course on Journalism
Even though recently various state institutions, universities, private institutions and organizations conduct courses on Journalism, it is the responsibility of the Sri Lanka Press Council to conduct systematic seminars and workshops on Journalism and Communication study in accordance with Government policies. It is expected to popularize a better media culture within the island.
Despite of the commencement of various courses on Journalism, the Council has identified the requirement of an academic course based on Journalism to enhance the basic theoretical and practical knowledge on the scope with highly recommended institutional assurance.
This certificate Course consists with vital key scopes on Journalism and its practices.
Especially, this six month course has been conducted for trained and untrained apprentice journalists, university undergraduates who study Journalism and media studies as a subject, advanced level students who had undertaken media studies as a subject and keeners who are willing to study on Journalism.
The course will be conducted on Sundays at Sri Lanka Press Council. Hence, the lecture board is consisted with Scholars on media studies, university lecturers who represent Kelaniya,Colombo and Sri Jayewardenepura universities as well as veteran Journalists. The certificate course will be conducted in Sinhala medium.
If you are the media personnel who have been qualified by passing ordinary level examination with a credit pass for Sinhala language, it is adequate to apply for the course. As well as the personnel who are willing to apply as apprentice applicants must be qualified with A/L and should be taken a credit pass for Sinhala Language in Ordinary Level examination or equal educational qualification is required. Furthermore the applicant’s age limit should be 18-40 years when applying for the course.
