Launching welfare programs for veteran Journalists - Organized by Sri Lanka Press Council.
In Accordance with the press council’s main ambition which was established under act No 05 of Sri Lanka Press Council in 1973, the council has launched the fund granting program for the first time for providing welfare for Senior Journalists. The first phase of the programme was launched on 29 th & 30 th of May centering two senior Journalists.
The Press Council is an establishment which conducts Diploma Programs, provincial journalist’s programs, the programs which are held with foreign press councils, publications research & Symposiums. In addition to these activities Sri Lanka Press Council being a responsible eastablishment, garnts funds for senior journalists who had immensely contributed for journalism. Accordingly Mr .A.L.K. Perera who is one of the first seven members of Times of Ceylon & Lankadeepa and Senior Journalist Sunil Madhawa Premathilake who was working for Divaina and Lakmina News papers focusing on investigative Journalism has led the newspaper industry for a new orientation.Hence they were appreciated by providing them financial assistance by visiting their homes in an honour to them.
The Hon .Minister of Media Mr. Ruwan Wijewardhena, Senior Attorney at Law Mr. Koggala Wellala Bandula the Chairman of SLPC and senior Journalist Mr. Ariyananda Dombagahawatta a member of the director board, the Press Commissioner Mr. Niroshana Thambawita and the Accountant Mr. Kushan Devapriya was also participated to this event. Furthermore the progrrame is expected to implement continuously in this manner in the near future as well.
