A Chinese delegation comprised of four Professors related to the field of Mass Media recently (16.11.2015) visited the Sri Lanka Press Council. The prime objective of this visit was to discuss on the programmes and strategies proposed to be launched in relation to inter-cultural exchanges between the two countries. This delegation comprised of representatives from publication sector, institutions to protect cultural heritage as well as representatives from stakeholders of current trends in mass media expressed views on the importance of launching programmes to further strengthen inter-cultural relations between the countries. As a preliminary step, it has been proposed to implement training programmes for journalists at the end of this year or in the first quarter of the ensuing year.
The delegation of 04 senior professors along with several other representatives attended this discussion while Senior Counsel Koggala Wellala Bandula, Chairman of Sri Lanka Press Council and the co-ordinator of this programme, Prof. Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa, Board Member of the Council and Head of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Kelaniya, senior journalist and Board Member of the Council Mr. S. Thillainathan and Acting Press Commissioner Mr. Niroshana Thambawita participated in the discussion representing the Council.
