Even though various state institutions, universities, private institutions and organizations conduct courses on Journalism, it is the responsibility of the Sri Lanka Pre4ss Council to conduct systematic seminars and workshops on Journalism and Communication study in accordance with Government policies. It is expected to popularize a better media culture within the island.
Despite of the commencement of various courses on Journalism, the Council has identified the requirement of a diploma course based on Journalism. This Diploma Course has been
introduced accordingly. This one-year course has been conducted for professional journalists and apprentice journalists and its syllabus has been designed based on the UNESCO declaration on training of journalism.
Accordingly, the studies of the third group of this course are being conducted and the applicants who have satisfied the following qualifications can apply.
Passing 3 subjects in the G.C.E.(A/L) Examination is necessary and passing the G.C.E.(O/L) and the experience of three years is sufficient for journalist.
